It's back! The notorious Chub hub has once again made an appearance.... Famous for it's unique design and aesthetic, the Chub hub was once one of the 'must have' fixed gear items out there. Not ready for the demand and annoyed by manufacturing hassle and the bicycle industry in general the original designer/manufacturer stopped production. Now, a few years later they've been brought back by the folks at By the Hive in Petaluma, CA but with a slightly tweaked design made in state of the art manufacturing facilities to better tolerances and a reputable company to back up and distribute the product. The Chub is an unmistakable product with massive flanges and a giant carbon tube as a hub shell. The hub's design means short spokes and a stiff wheel with minimal windup. According to Chub, spoke stress is reduced 70% relative to a conventional high flange hub. The hub is built with a super stiff 15mm aluminum through axle and uses titanium M10 bolts with a huge amount of surface area - no chain tensioners needed. It comes double fixed in all black or silver/carbon. 120 and 130mm spacing with either 24 or 32 holes. Anything besides 120mm 32 hole is special order and subject to availability. 296 grams. When built to a H + Son or other very deep dish rim we recommend 2 cross spoke lacing.
