The Arkel GT54 is the flagship/workhorse of the Arkel pannier line. It's asymmetrical design is based on the idea that you likely have very few of the same size items when you travel so your panniers should have different features as well.  For instance the tube pocket.  In the tube pocket you can stow a ground pad, tent poles, or perhaps even a tent.  But you don't need two.  Similar features are available throughout.
     Within both panniers is a bright yellow, waterproof,  liner with a non-use option.  Bright yellow to more easily identify your items in the dark; waterpoof to keep your items dry or separate the dirty from the clean; or if you're not in wet or dirty conditions roll the liner up and out of your way.
     Pockets are everywhere and if Velcro isn't holding it in place like a few pockets, then you're opening and closing with a buttery smooth zippers.  Infact, you probably won't believe it's not butter.  A couple notable pockets are the Butterfly Pocket and the Fanny Pack Pocket.  The Butterfly pocket is a  convenient feature that allows you to store common tools or other essentials so you don't have to dig throughout panniers when you need your common articles now.  And then there is the Fanny Pack; need we say more?
     There are also built in safety features such as reflective ribbons, tangle-free straps, and sturdy aluminum internal frame.  The reflective ribbons surround the bag and are visible to traffic whether you are hithering or thithering.  The straps that bind are situated such that they will not tangle and bind into your wheels.  And the aluminum internal frame is sturdy and supportive of both the back and the bottom.
